Fix Sessions You Forgot to Clock Out Of

Last updated: September 1, 2026

Module: Time Tracking
What you'll do: Close out past attendance sessions you never clocked out of by setting the real clock-out time.

When you'd do this

You checked in one day but forgot to check out, so the session was left open and your recorded hours for that day are wrong. Cercli now warns you about these and lets you fix them yourself — no need to ask anyone to correct it for you.

Before you start

  • Know (roughly) when you actually finished working on the day(s) in question — you'll enter that as the real clock-out time.

  • This is for past sessions that were never closed. If you're mid-shift — including an overnight shift that runs past midnight — that's a normal open session, not one that needs fixing.

Steps

  1. Go to Time Tracking → Attendance. If any sessions were left open, a warning appears above the tracker — for example, "2 sessions were never clocked out. Review them and set the real clock-out time so your hours stay accurate."

  2. Click Review. The Open sessions page opens, listing every session that was never clocked out, with a count at the top.

  3. For each session, open the correction form. You'll see: "Enter the time you actually clocked out. This session was left open and never checked out."

  4. Pick the real clock-out date and time and save.

  5. Repeat for each listed session. When they're all fixed, the page shows "You have no open sessions to fix".

What happens next

  • The corrected session closes with the clock-out time you entered, and it disappears from the Open sessions list.

  • Your recorded hours for that day now reflect the corrected time, and the warning on the Attendance page goes away once nothing is left open.

  • Attendance reports your manager sees show the session as properly closed.

Tips & gotchas

  • The clock-out time must be after that session's clock-in, and it can't be in the future — the form won't accept either.

  • Fix open sessions promptly — while a session is open, your worked hours for that day look wrong in reports.

  • Enter your honest finish time; the correction becomes part of your attendance record.

  • An overnight shift you're still working is not flagged — only past sessions that were never closed appear here.

Troubleshooting

  • I don't see the warning but I know I forgot to check out. The warning only shows while you have open sessions — someone may have already corrected it. Check your hours for that day.

  • I can't open the Open sessions page. Fixing sessions needs the right access — ask your admin.

  • "Clock-out time must be after the clock-in time." Your clock-out is set before that session started — check you picked the right date.

  • "Clock-out time cannot be in the future." Pick a time that has already passed.
